Equatorial Guinea's land border crossings, neighbour by neighbour:

With Cameroon: Ebebiyin - Campo in the north.

With Gabon: Ebebiyin - Bitam in the east.

Both crossings are on the mainland part, which is called Rio Muni.

The capital is on an island. Malabo stands on Bioko, separated from the mainland part of the country by water, and you get there by plane. It is a rare case of a capital physically cut off from the main territory.

The main ways in are Malabo International Airport on Bioko and Bata airport on the mainland.

Driving to Equatorial Guinea

Traffic drives on the right.

Ask customs about the rules for temporarily bringing a vehicle into Equatorial Guinea, rather than going by experience in a neighbouring country: the time limits and the carnet requirement are not the same.

Insurance is taken out locally, and bought at the border.

An International Driving Permit is required.

A car cannot be driven overland between the island capital and the mainland - only by ferry or by sea.

Travelling to Equatorial Guinea with a pet

You need an international veterinary certificate, endorsed by the state veterinary service of the country you are leaving.

The rabies vaccination must be valid on the date of entry.

An import permit is arranged in advance with the veterinary service.

Check the requirements for the animal before you buy tickets, not after. Vaccination deadlines and quarantine rules change, and there is no redoing them in a day.

Overstaying your visa in Equatorial Guinea

A fine is charged for exceeding your permitted stay and is paid on departure.

You will learn the figure at the border and not before. Rates in Equatorial Guinea are revised and the reference sources do not keep up: take cash and allow time for the exit formalities.

Extensions are arranged in advance, before your permitted stay runs out.

A serious overstay means deportation and an entry ban.

What else to check before you go

更新日

Entry rules change faster than anything else on this site, and they change without notice. We cross-check every page against several sources and state the date it was verified, but that does not replace the main step: before you travel, check an official source — the country’s consulate, its immigration service or its e-visa portal. Especially if more than a couple of months have passed since our check.
