What you need to get in, how long you may stay, and what an overstay costs
Guinea's land border crossings, neighbour by neighbour:
With Senegal: Koulountou in the north-west.
With Mali: Kourassa and Siguiri in the north-east.
With Cote d'Ivoire: Sinko in the east.
With Liberia: Nzerekore–Ganta in the south.
With Sierra Leone: Pampana and Gberia in the south-west.
With Guinea-Bissau: Kebo in the west.
Guinea has six neighbours, and it is a hub country for the region — but the roads in the border areas are unpaved and hard going in the rainy season.
The main way in is Conakry International Airport.
Check the carnet and the maximum import period for Guinea before you start out. These are the two points that most often turn a car back at the border.
Insurance is bought locally, at the border.
An International Driving Permit is required.
Traffic police are active on the highways, and documents are checked often.
An international veterinary certificate is required, endorsed by the state veterinary service of the country you are leaving.
A rabies vaccination must be valid on the date of entry.
An import permit is arranged in advance with the veterinary service.
Confirm the vaccination timings, the microchip and the quarantine rules for bringing an animal into Guinea with your carrier before you buy the tickets.
A fine is charged for exceeding the term of your visa and is paid on departure.
The fine is worked out as you leave the country, and there is no calculating it in advance. The rates in Guinea change and there is no single published scale. Cash at the border is essential.
Extensions are arranged in advance, before your permitted stay runs out.
A serious overstay means detention and deportation at your own expense.

Entry rules change faster than anything else on this site, and they change without notice. We cross-check every page against several sources and state the date it was verified, but that does not replace the main step: before you travel, check an official source — the country’s consulate, its immigration service or its e-visa portal. Especially if more than a couple of months have passed since our check.
