What you need to get in, how long you may stay, and what an overstay costs
Kuwait's land border crossings, grouped by the neighbour they lead to:
With Saudi Arabia: An-Nuwaiseeb on the coast, Al-Khafji and As-Salmi.
With Iraq: Abdali in the north.
The Iraqi direction is effectively closed to tourists - a route through it is not one of the usual travel options.
The main flow of arrivals goes through Kuwait airport.
The unified Gulf visa is not working yet. The common document for the six countries is being rolled out in stages, and you cannot count on it when planning a trip right now.
Overland entry is possible from Saudi Arabia - that is the only practical direction.
You still need to obtain a visa in advance, and it is not issued at the land crossing either.
Check the rules for temporarily importing a car into Kuwait with customs. They change, and general figures do not carry over here.
An International Driving Permit is required, and insurance is arranged locally.
An import permit is required and has to be arranged in advance.
An international-standard microchip is mandatory.
The rabies vaccination must be valid on the date of entry.
The veterinary certificate is endorsed by the state veterinary service of the country of departure.
Certain dog breeds are banned from import.
Check the vaccination and test deadlines for bringing an animal into Kuwait with your country's veterinary service before buying tickets.
A fine is charged for every day beyond the period stated in the visa.
The fine is calculated on departure, and you learn the figure at passport control. There is no way to find it out in advance in Kuwait: the rates are revised and reference sources disagree. Allow for cash and for extra time.
The consequences go beyond a fine: a substantial overstay leads to deportation and an entry ban.
The period is taken from the visa, not from the dates of your trip - it may state fewer days than the 90 you expected.

Entry rules change faster than anything else on this site, and they change without notice. We cross-check every page against several sources and state the date it was verified, but that does not replace the main step: before you travel, check an official source — the country’s consulate, its immigration service or its e-visa portal. Especially if more than a couple of months have passed since our check.
