There are two neighbours - Switzerland and Austria, and both borders are inside the Schengen area.

With Switzerland: the bridges across the Rhine at Vaduz, Schaan and Balzers. The famous covered wooden bridge from Vaduz to Sevelen in Switzerland is for pedestrians.

With Austria: Schellenberg and Neu-Schellenberg in the north.

There is no border control, but a customs check on the Swiss side is possible: Liechtenstein is in a customs union with Switzerland, which is outside the EU customs union.

There is almost no railway - a short stretch of the Feldkirch - Buchs line runs through the country with a few stops.

There is no airport, the nearest being Zurich and St Gallen.

Bringing a car into Liechtenstein

You can get there from Switzerland or Austria.

A Swiss vignette is needed for transit - when approaching through Switzerland on the motorways.

A Green Card is compulsory for foreign-registered vehicles.

You can drive across the country in twenty minutes - it stretches twenty-five kilometres along the Rhine.

Temporary import into Liechtenstein follows local rules. They get changed, and confirming the procedure in advance is safer than setting off and hoping.

Travelling to Liechtenstein with a pet

EU rules apply, since the only way to get here is through European Union countries.

An ISO-standard microchip is compulsory, implanted BEFORE the rabies vaccination.

Rabies vaccination - and a 21-day wait before entry.

A rabies antibody titre test is required only for pets from a country not on the EU's approved list. The US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK are on the list, so this does not apply to pets travelling from those countries; Russia is one of the countries it does apply to. A three-month wait then applies before entry.

An EU veterinary certificate is required.

Overstaying your visa in Liechtenstein

The violation is recorded across the whole Schengen area, not for the principality alone.

The main consequence is a refusal of your next visa.

An entry ban for a substantial overstay applies to the entire area.

Days are counted across the whole of Schengen.

What else to check before you go

更新日

Entry rules change faster than anything else on this site, and they change without notice. We cross-check every page against several sources and state the date it was verified, but that does not replace the main step: before you travel, check an official source — the country’s consulate, its immigration service or its e-visa portal. Especially if more than a couple of months have passed since our check.
