What you need to get in, how long you may stay, and what an overstay costs
The Seychelles are islands in the Indian Ocean and have no land borders.
All entry goes through Seychelles International Airport on Mahe.
Ferries and domestic flights run between the islands - Mahe, Praslin and La Digue are linked by regular services, and there are no separate border formalities inside the country.
Cruise ships call at Victoria, and the same permit procedure applies to passengers going ashore.
You cannot reach the Seychelles under your own steam - there are no land borders.
Tourists get around in rental cars, and on Mahe and Praslin this is the main way of travelling.
Driving is on the left.
An International Driving Permit is required.
The import rules are strict: the islands protect their own ecosystem, and the permit is arranged in advance with the veterinary service.
Quarantine applies, and this sets the Seychelles apart from most destinations.
Find out the requirements and the timings before you buy tickets, not just before departure.
A fine is charged for staying beyond the permit's validity.
The amount of the fine will only be named at the border. The rates change and it cannot be worked out in advance - keep a reserve of cash for the day you leave.
Extensions are arranged in advance with the immigration service.
A serious overstay means deportation at your own expense.

Entry rules change faster than anything else on this site, and they change without notice. We cross-check every page against several sources and state the date it was verified, but that does not replace the main step: before you travel, check an official source — the country’s consulate, its immigration service or its e-visa portal. Especially if more than a couple of months have passed since our check.
