Cos’è il permesso internazionale e quando ti salva
Il permesso internazionale non è una patente a sé ma la traduzione ufficiale della tua. Vale solo insieme all’originale e si ottiene in un giorno.
Due convenzioni
Esistono due formati: la Convenzione di Vienna del 1968 e quella di Ginevra del 1949. Il formato riconosciuto dal paese decide se il tuo permesso vale: il Giappone, per esempio, accetta solo quello di Ginevra.
La categoria A decide tutto
L’errore classico sulle due ruote: noleggiare uno scooter con la patente B. In Thailandia, Indonesia e a Bali è la causa più frequente di multe e, dopo un incidente, l’assicurazione semplicemente non paga, né per te né per gli altri.
Fino a 125 cc in Europa
Nella maggior parte dei paesi UE puoi guidare uno scooter da 125 cc con la patente B dopo tre anni. Fuori dall’Europa questa agevolazione di solito non c’è: o categoria A o niente.
Guida a sinistra
Regno Unito, Irlanda, Cipro, Malta, Giappone, Thailandia, Indonesia, India, Sudafrica, Australia e Nuova Zelanda guidano a sinistra. In moto è più pericoloso che in auto: in curva e agli incroci il corpo torna da solo nella corsia abituale.
Serve la patente internazionale all’estero
Dipende dal paese e da come è fatta la tua patente. Le patenti recenti con traslitterazione latina sono accettate in Georgia, Turchia, USA, Messico e in gran parte dell’America Latina. Nel Sud-est asiatico, negli Emirati e in Sud America serve quasi sempre il permesso internazionale: senza, il noleggio è illegale.
La moto è un capitolo a parte. La categoria B non abilita alla guida di una moto da nessuna parte, tranne in Europa con il limite dei 125 cc. I noleggi in Thailandia e a Bali danno scooter a chiunque, ma è il loro modello di business, non un’esenzione: la polizia multa il conducente e l’assicurazione non paga.
Il permesso internazionale si rilascia sulla base della patente nazionale, dura tre anni e costa poco. Farlo prima di partire costa meno di una sola multa sul posto.
