Panjshanbe Covered Market (Khujand)

One of the largest covered bazaars in Central Asia, in the centre of Khujand. The vast building dates from 1954 and mixes Soviet and eastern styles; inside are rows of stalls with fruit, spices, Uzbek and Tajik sweets, and tea houses. The name means "Thursday", historically the market day of the quarter.
