This posad church of 1647 to 1650 was built with the money of the Skripin merchants, and Catherine II later made it the centre of a new city plan, so that Sovetskaya Square was laid out around it. Green domes, a tented bell tower and side chapels give it an asymmetrical yet balanced silhouette. Inside, the wall painting of 1680 by the workshop of Gury Nikitin survives almost in full.
