Hoa Lu Ancient Capital

Hoa Lu was the capital of Vietnam from 968 to 1010 under the Dinh and Early Le dynasties, until Ly Thai To moved the court to Thang Long. The fortress stood in a basin closed off by limestone ridges, so that the mountains served as ready-made walls. Of the settlement there remain ramparts, stone gates and the temples of the kings Dinh Tien Hoang and Le Dai Hanh, raised in the 17th century on the site of the palaces.
