Gyajo La, also called Thulo Lapcha, is a high mountain pass on Nepal’s Numbur Cheese Circuit in the country’s east. A sign at the saddle records an elevation of 4,880 metres. The pass links the Likhu Valley with the areas to its north and marks the highest point of this section of the trek. On a commonly published itinerary, walkers climb from Tare and descend toward Ngeju and the Likhu Glacier.
The route crosses the high-altitude terrain of the Gaurishankar Conservation Area: rocky slopes, moraine ridges, glaciers, and open views of snow-covered peaks. This is not a day walk from the nearest town. The crossing requires a multi-day trek, overnight stays at altitude, and time for acclimatisation. Thin air, cold, wind, and rapidly changing weather affect even experienced trekkers; snow or poor visibility can make the pass unsafe.
Before setting out, check the current route, trail conditions, permits, and guide arrangements with local operators and the conservation-area authorities. There is little of the infrastructure found in towns on the higher sections, so plan food, overnight stops, communications, and spare days in advance. Do not rely only on an elevation copied from older guides or photographs: make the crossing decision using current weather and trail conditions.
