Kashgar Museum

The Kashgar Museum stands in the new part of the city, away from the old quarters, and occupies a large building with a curved shell-like roof. The display is devoted to the southern branch of the Silk Road and the oases around Kashgar, with ceramics, coins, Buddhist sculpture from the ancient sites nearby, Tang funerary figurines and documents in several languages. Separate halls show the daily life and the crafts of the peoples of Kashgaria, from carpets and embroidery to tools and costume. The labels are duplicated in Uyghur and in English. The museum goes well with a walk through the old town, which is about three kilometres away.
