Mausoleum of Gawhar Shad Begum (Herat)

The tomb of Queen Gawhar Shad Begum (died 1457), wife of Sultan Shahrukh and a patron of the arts of the Timurid renaissance. It is part of what was once the huge Gawhar Shad madrasa in Herat, of which only the mausoleum with its ribbed turquoise dome survives. It was under restoration and scaffolding through the 2010s.
