Emin Minaret

A brick minaret about forty-four metres high on the eastern edge of Turpan, the tallest of the old minarets in China. It was built in 1777-1778 at the order of the Turpan ruler Suleiman in memory of his father, Emin Khoja. The shaft tapers upwards and is laid in fifteen different patterns of fired brick, and beside it stands a hall mosque with a mihrab.
