National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The main museum of the country opened in 2014 on Independence Square, next to the Hazrat Sultan complex. The building of about seventy-five thousand square metres occupies seven blocks joined by glazed passages. The display leads from the stone age and the Saka burial mounds to the ethnography of the steppe and a hall of modern Kazakhstan. A separate hall is given over entirely to a detailed model of Astana, which shows how the capital was built from the river towards the new left bank. The archaeological section exhibits stone Turkic statues brought from various regions of the republic.
