Tver's second bridge across the Volga was built between 1953 and 1956 and linked Tverskoy Avenue with the districts on the far bank. Its steel spans were not new when they arrived, having been taken from the Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge in Leningrad during a reconstruction there and shipped to Kalinin. From the deck there is a view of the mouth of the Tvertsa and the city embankment.
