Haixinsha occupies a sandy island in the middle of the Pearl River, wedged between two bridges directly opposite the television tower. The park was laid out for the 2010 Asian Games, and its main arena with masts shaped like ship sails still stands. Long flower beds run along the shore, and behind them the towers of the new Zhujiang business district glow at night. The eastern tip of the island gives a head-on view of Canton Tower reflected in the water. Admission is free, but on weekend evenings half the city gathers here and the viewing platforms get crowded.
