Peter and Paul Fortress

The historic core of St Petersburg: a six-bastion fortress laid down by Peter the Great in 1703 on Hare Island. Inside are the Peter and Paul Cathedral with its 122.5 m spire (burial place of the emperors from Peter I onwards), the Mint, the Trubetskoy Bastion and the famous noon gun. One of the city's defining silhouettes, and the view from Palace Embankment is a St Petersburg calling card.
