The River of Life project transformed the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers, where Kuala Lumpur began in the 19th century. The embankments along both channels were cleared and faced in stone, the water was made clearer, and lighting and mist were installed along the banks. In the evening the channel is flooded with blue light and the river turns into a light installation more than a kilometre long. The Jamek Mosque stands right at the confluence, with the towers of the business centre rising behind it. The work was completed in 2017, and the stretch became one of the main places to walk in the old town.
