Smolensk Fortress Wall

About half of the fortress of 1595-1602 survives: some three kilometres of wall and eighteen of the original thirty-eight towers. The masonry runs straight through the city, and you can walk along the grass right up against it, a rare case of a fortress left open to the life around it.
