Jalan Alor

Jalan Alor is the evening food street in the Bukit Bintang quarter, known to all of Kuala Lumpur. By day it is an ordinary lane behind the hotels, but by seven in the evening the cars leave and the pavements along the whole block are built up with stalls and plastic tables. Red lanterns and garlands shaped like fish hang above the roadway, and it is by them that the street is recognised in photographs. The trade is in fried noodles, satay skewers, seafood on ice and durian, which is opened up in front of the buyer. The bars of Changkat Bukit Bintang work in the neighbouring lanes, and people move between the two streets deep into the night.
