The largest wooden throne hall in China and the ceremonial heart of the Forbidden City. Coronations, imperial weddings and the receiving of New Year greetings all took place here. Its double-eaved roof carries ten figures of beasts along the ridge, the highest number in Beijing's strict hierarchy of roofs.
