We launched Backpack.travel, a platform for everyone who loves to travel. Whether you go solo or with family, explore megacities or head into the remote backcountry, this site was made for you.
Travel is easier than you think
“It’s dangerous.” “I can’t manage without a guide.” “How will I find a hotel on my own?” “It’s too expensive.” We’ve heard it all. But most of these fears are unfounded. Every day, millions of people discover places on their own, spend less than they would on a package tour, and come home with stories you can’t buy through a travel agency.
Backpack.travel is here to help you get past that hurdle. Open the site, make a plan, go.
What you can do on the site
Put trips and places on the interactive map, then plan and share routes. You can add useful places—cafés, viewpoints, parking areas and trails—with descriptions. A personal travel blog is another option.
The community lets you form groups around your interests or destinations, share routes, and ask people who have been there for advice. You can message them directly; a traveler’s firsthand experience is worth more than any guidebook.
The site follows a wiki model: anyone can add or correct city, country and place information. With more contributors, that information grows more complete and useful for the next traveller.
There’s also an AI trip planner, a photo editor, a Telegram bot, and more to help you get ready for your trip.
The site keeps evolving
