Angkor Wat

The largest temple complex of Angkor, built in the first half of the 12th century under king Suryavarman II and dedicated to Vishnu. It is a rectangle of walls with a moat about two hundred metres wide, a stone causeway leading to the western entrance and five prasat towers that repeat the outline of Mount Meru. Later the temple passed to the Buddhists and, unlike most of the Angkorian buildings, was never wholly abandoned. The walls of the galleries are covered with bas-reliefs hundreds of metres long.
