The parish church of the Sacred Heart stands on a slope beside the road that leads to the Hang Nga villa. The building was put up already in the Vietnamese period, with a sharp triangular gable bearing a cross, lancet stained glass and red tiles instead of the usual colonial brickwork. A grotto of the Mother of God built of black volcanic stone stands in front of the entrance, and at Easter the courtyard is decorated with painted eggs and flowers in pots. There have been many Catholics in Da Lat since French times, so the hall fills up for services. Visitors look in here on the way between the centre and the Crazy House.
