Crazy House (Hang Nga)

The Hang Nga guesthouse, which everyone in Da Lat calls the Crazy House, has been under construction since 1990 to a design by the architect Dang Viet Nga. The building is moulded out of concrete in the shape of an enormous rotten tree with hollows, growths and caves, and winding open staircases without railings are thrown between its blocks. Inside are den-like rooms with figures of animals, while outside concrete vines twine over the walls. The architect studied architecture in Moscow and explained her idea as a wish to return people to nature. Some of the rooms are let to guests, and the rest of the building is open for viewing during the day.
