Dunhuang Ancient City

A set of a medieval desert town twenty kilometres west of Dunhuang, built in 1987 for a Japanese-Chinese film about the city. Rammed-earth walls, gate towers and rows of shops imitate a town of the Song era; filming still goes on here, and between shoots the site is opened to visitors.
