Lujiazui is the financial quarter on the eastern bank of the Huangpu, grown up on the site of warehouses and shipyards after 1990. The three main high-rises of Shanghai stand here: the Jin Mao Tower, the Shanghai World Financial Center with the opening at its summit, and the Shanghai Tower of 632 metres. To the left of them rises the Oriental Pearl television tower with its pink spheres, which has become the symbol of the city. The panorama is usually taken in from the opposite bank, from the Bund embankment, where the quarter is seen whole. After sunset the facades and the screens switch on their lighting, and pleasure boats move along the river.
