Lukum, also known locally as Lugum, is a village in Ward 1 of Bhume Rural Municipality in Rukum East, western Nepal. It is known for its dense settlement and traditional houses associated with Magar culture, one of Nepal’s Indigenous cultures. The village sits on a mountain slope among cultivated terraces and conifer trees. Its appeal lies in the settlement’s architecture, local way of life, and landscape.

Lukum has become a more visible destination for travel in eastern Rukum as road connections through the region have improved. Visitors come to see the older settlement and learn about Magar culture. This is a living community rather than a museum complex: homes and shared spaces belong to local residents, so respect private property and ask before entering restricted areas.

Lukum is best planned as part of a dedicated route through Rukum East. Check road conditions, transport, and overnight options before setting out; this is a remote mountain area and conditions can change. If your visit coincides with a local cultural event, confirm dates and visitor arrangements with the community or Bhume municipality in advance.
