Nur-Astana Mosque

Nur-Astana stands on the left bank, beside Nurzhol Boulevard, and until Hazrat Sultan was built it was the main mosque of the capital. It is easily recognised by its large golden dome and four white minarets with gilded finials, which are lit from below in the evening. The building was raised in 2005 with money given by the emir of Qatar and was designed for about five thousand worshippers. The minarets are sixty-three metres high, for the number of years in the life of the prophet Muhammad. The mosque is open to visitors, and non-Muslims are admitted as well if they dress modestly.
