Hazrat Sultan Mosque

The chief mosque of Astana opened in 2012 on the square beside the Kazakh Eli monument. The building is faced with white marble, its central dome rises about fifty metres and its four minarets reach 77, and several thousand worshippers can stand inside. The name translates as the most holy sultan and points to the Sufi preacher Khoja Ahmed Yasawi.
