Saloma Bridge

The Saloma pedestrian bridge links the old Malay quarter of Kampung Baru with the KLCC business district, stepping over the Klang River and a city flyover. It is covered by a latticed vault of interwoven steel rods that repeats the form of the sirih junjung, the rolled betel leaves presented at weddings in Malaysia. The bridge is named after Saloma, the singer and actress who was a star of Malay cinema in the sixties. At night the vault is lit in blue and gold, and the crossing becomes a viewing platform, with the Petronas Towers standing right in the opening of the arch. Walking over the bridge is free and possible around the clock, and the crossing takes a couple of minutes.
