Monument to Valiant Ancestors

Attraction·Вязьма·Russia

A granite crag carries a bronze double-headed eagle tearing at a French banner with its claws. The monument was raised in 1913 for the centenary of the Patriotic War, since on 22 October 1812 Russian troops broke the rearguard of Napoleon's retreating army outside Vyazma. The front face bears the arms of the town and a plaque reading From Grateful Descendants to Valiant Ancestors.
