Pingjiang Historic District, Suzhou

Suzhou's old quarter along the Pingjiang canal: an 800-metre pedestrian street of tea houses, shops and Ming and Qing buildings that face both water and lane. One of the best-preserved corners of the "Chinese Venice", with whitewashed walls under black tiles, humpbacked stone bridges and boats. An ideal walk from the Twin Pagodas to the North Temple.
