Rostov Kremlin

The residence of the metropolitans of Rostov was built between 1670 and 1683 under Metropolitan Iona Sysoyevich. Its walls and towers were raised without any military purpose, as an image of the ideal heavenly city rather than a fortress. Inside are gate churches, chambers and a pond in the middle of the yard, and the comedy Ivan Vasilievich Changes Profession was filmed here.
