Turpan Old Town

A quarter in the western part of Turpan, rebuilt in the rammed-earth manner traditional to the oasis, with thick clay walls, toothed parapets, latticed openings for drying grapes and heavy wooden gates. Inside there are rows of shops and courtyards hung with red lanterns, while the paved squares stand almost empty through the heat of the day.
