A clay host buried by the tomb of the first Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huang and found by peasants in 1974 while they were digging a well. Three pits have been excavated; in the first and largest stand ranks of infantry in battle order, and in the second chariots, cavalry and archers. The figures were modelled life-size, the faces all differ, and originally they were painted. Halls have been raised over the digs, and the pits are shown exactly where the find was made.
