Dormition Cathedral in Vladimir

The chief church of Vladimir and Suzdal Rus was built under Andrei Bogolyubsky between 1158 and 1160, then enlarged after a fire under Vsevolod the Big Nest, when it gained its five domes. Until the rise of Moscow the grand princes were enthroned here. Inside survive the frescoes painted by Andrei Rublev and Daniil Chorny in 1408, and the cathedral is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
