The World Peace Pagoda, also known as Shanti Stupa, stands on a hill above the southern edge of Phewa Lake in Pokhara. The white, domed Buddhist stupa is dedicated to peace and carries images of the Buddha facing the four cardinal directions. Its position above the lake makes it one of the city’s principal viewpoints, looking across the water and Pokhara toward the Annapurna range.

The pagoda fits naturally into a visit to Phewa’s southern shore and the hills around the city. Visitors come to see the monument and take in the broad mountain outlook. Allow time for the uphill approach and check the weather: on clear days the distant peaks are easier to see, while cloud can obscure the range. The site remains a place of religious significance, so follow local guidance and behave respectfully around the stupa.

The villages of Pumdi and Bumdi lie near the southern rim of the lake. Nepal Tourism Board notes their traditional oval houses made of red clay and their mountain views. A visit to the pagoda can be combined with exploring this side of the lake, but check locally for current trail conditions and available ways to reach the hill. The ascent is the main physical effort; this is not a high-altitude trek.
