Zampa Gateway is one of the recognisable historic entrances to Diu’s old town. The stone arch is set into the line of the town wall and retains decorative details associated with the island’s Portuguese heritage. Figurative motifs and European elements meet in the carved panel above the passage, while the gateway remains part of an ordinary street rather than a detached museum exhibit. It is best seen on a walking route through the historic centre, among older quarters, churches and streets leading toward the fort and waterfront. The opening also suggests how the town connected with its defences and controlled movement between the harbour and residential areas. Look closely at the stone carving and masonry, especially the upper façade; angled morning or late-afternoon light makes the relief easier to read. The visit can be combined with Diu Fort, but the gateway is a landmark in its own right, with a distinct architectural character. It remains part of an active town, so pedestrians and local traffic may pass through; view the façade from a safe place and keep the route clear. Zampa shows how Diu’s colonial history survives not only in large fortifications but also in the everyday layout of the old town.
