A congregational mosque within the Imam Reza complex, begun in 1418 at the wish of Goharshad, wife of the Timurid ruler Shahrukh, with the work led by the court architect Qavam al-Din Shirazi and taking about twelve years. The courtyard, roughly 50 by 55 metres, is ringed by four iwans, and a turquoise dome rises over the prayer hall. It is counted among the chief monuments of Timurid architecture.
