Phewa Lake, also called Fewa, lies below the hills of Pokhara and is the city’s main waterfront. The eastern and northern shores hold boat stations, cafés and hotels. From the water, visitors see wooded slopes and, on clear days, the Annapurna range and the distinctive profile of Machhapuchhre. A small island in the southern part of the lake is home to Tal Barahi Temple, one of Pokhara’s best-known shrines. Rowboats ferry visitors there from the lakeside. People use the lake for short boat trips, crossings to the temple and walks along the shore. Phewa is part of the Pokhara Valley’s lake system and receives water from the surrounding hills; water levels and clarity vary during the year. The shoreline is easy to reach from the Lakeside district, where most piers and viewpoints are located. Boat trips depend on weather and local operating conditions. The lake is large enough that exploring more than one section takes time, and mountain views depend heavily on cloud cover. Phewa pairs naturally with visits to the World Peace Pagoda, Devi’s Fall and the Sarangkot viewpoint.
