Dudhsagar Falls lies on the Mandovi River in the Western Ghats, within Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary in Goa. The name is commonly translated as “Sea of Milk”: during heavy rains, streams of water plunge over a dark rock face and churn into pale foam below. The falls sit in a forested mountain valley near Collem, close to the Goa–Karnataka border, and are among the region’s best-known natural landmarks.
Dudhsagar changes with the seasons. Monsoon rains make the cascade far more powerful, while also affecting access to the protected area. In drier months the water is generally calmer and visitor conditions differ. The waterfall and surrounding forest are part of a protected natural zone, so routes and transport may be regulated by the forest authorities.
Before travelling, check current entry rules, open routes, and road conditions with Goa’s authorities and the Forest Department. Stay off railway tracks and use only authorized approaches to the falls. Allow ample time for the visit: the route crosses mountain terrain, and weather can quickly affect access.
