Fort San Pedro

Fort San Pedro is a stone fortification beside Cebu’s port and the city’s oldest surviving defensive structure. It stands at Plaza Independencia, close to the waterfront and the historic centre. Inside the perimeter is a compact courtyard framed by thick walls, arched openings and projecting bastions. The National Historical Commission of the Philippines describes the fort as triangular and built of stone and mortar in its historical registry.

The fort offers a glimpse of Cebu as a port city, where protecting the harbour and trade routes shaped everyday life. At the entrance, visitors can look at the historical marker and the masonry; from the courtyard, the low walls and corner bastions reveal the site’s layout. It is an easy stop to combine with a walk across Plaza Independencia, a visit to the National Museum of the Philippines–Cebu and other historic places in the old city.

The site is close to busy streets and the port district. Follow the permitted visitor routes and avoid closed sections of the fort. Opening times and access to individual rooms can change, so check current information before setting out.
