Birch Memorial Clock Tower

Attraction·Ипох·Malaysia

A clock tower in the centre of Ipoh, put up in memory of James Birch, the first British resident of Perak, who was killed in 1875. The building was finished in 1909 as a white four-sided tower with clock faces on every side. The lower tier is girdled by a panel of 44 figures depicting the growth of civilisation. The mosque of Sultan Idris Shah II stands nearby, and the old colonial quarter begins here.
