Chapel over the Well

This small chapel of the late seventeenth century stands over a spring by the western wall of the Dormition Cathedral. Its tiers of twisted columns and coloured painting are characteristic Moscow baroque and contrast sharply with the white Dormition Cathedral alongside. The water from beneath the chapel is held to be holy, and people come for it with bottles.
