Pai Canyon, also known as Kong Lan, is a natural attraction in Mae Hong Son Province, about eight kilometres from central Pai. Ongoing erosion has cut reddish earth and sandstone into winding, narrow ridges above steep drops. Paths along the ridges look out over the valley and surrounding mountain ranges; sunrise and the hours before sunset are especially popular times to visit.
The site makes a short stop on the road from Pai towards the Memorial Bridge and other places around the valley. There is no long, fully engineered circuit: visitors walk along natural ridges and return the same way or explore whichever sections are suitable. Some passages are very narrow, steep and unfenced. Keep well back from the edges, move carefully and stay off wet ground. The surface becomes slippery after rain, so wear shoes with good grip and carry water; postpone the walk during heavy rain.
The canyon is in Mae Hi, beside Highway 1095 and close to Pai Memorial Bridge. Visitors usually travel from town by scooter, car or local transport; check road and trail conditions before setting out. Admission is free. Allow time for the drive and the walk, but do not expect the facilities of a large national park: the terrain is natural and calls for care. The canyon can be combined with other stops in the valley, provided there is enough time for the return journey before dark.
