Lijiang Old Town

A medieval town of the Naxi people at the foot of Yulong Xueshan, the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The layout took shape under the Mu clan, which ruled here from the 13th century: in place of fortress walls there is a network of canals from the Jade Spring, and along them run cobbled streets lined with two-storey wooden houses. Dozens of little stone bridges cross the canals, and the water is led through the quarters from Black Dragon Pool.
