Dormition Monastery in Staritsa

The monastery on the bank of the Volga is assembled from buildings of different centuries, and the white Dormition Cathedral of the mid-sixteenth century, the tented Presentation Church with its refectory, the gate Church of St John the Divine and the Trinity Church of the early nineteenth century all share a single yard. Patriarch Job, the first Russian patriarch and a native of Staritsa, took monastic vows here and was buried in the monastery before being moved later to Moscow. The ensemble was restored in the 2000s.
