Thekchen Choling Kota Tinggi is a Buddhist centre and temple complex in Tai Hong Village, about 10 kilometres west of the town centre. It is part of the Malaysian branch of Thekchen Choling and is affiliated with the community’s centre in Singapore. Land in Tai Hong was offered to the community in 2013; the temple was built in 2015, creating a spacious setting for prayer, meditation and retreats among plantations and gardens.
The complex’s main landmark is a gilded statue of Thousand-Armed Chenrezig, also known as Guanyin. The centre describes it as 36 feet (about 11 metres) tall. The main hall can seat up to 500 people. The grounds also contain eight great stupas, prayer wheels and statues of Buddhist teachers and deities. These features reflect Mahayana and Vajrayana practice. Visitors should explore quietly and treat the complex as an active place of worship.
The temple lies among gardens and plantations, away from Kota Tinggi’s central streets. Its official website lists daily opening hours of 9 am to 6 pm, but check ahead for changes during ceremonies or private events. Driving or taking a taxi is the most practical way to reach the centre. The address is Lot 691, Tai Hong Village, Kota Tinggi, Johor. Follow local rules when entering halls and avoid disturbing people who are praying.
