Wat Sam Phran

Wat Sam Phran is an active Buddhist temple complex in Sam Phran District, Nakhon Pathom Province, west of Bangkok. Its main landmark is a tall cylindrical pink tower wrapped by a large dragon figure. The spiral composition is visible from across the temple grounds and has become one of the area’s most recognisable contemporary architectural forms.

The tower is only one part of the compound. The open grounds include shrines, statues and separate temple buildings; visitors can explore on foot, moving from the main structure to smaller pavilions and courtyards. Wat Sam Phran remains a religious site, so visitors should follow temple etiquette and avoid disturbing worshippers. Access to individual buildings and the tower may depend on current arrangements or ceremonies, so check locally before travelling.

The temple lies outside Bangkok’s central districts, in Nakhon Pathom Province. Visitors often combine it with other provincial sights and use a car or taxi to travel between them. The address is in Sam Phran District; check the route and visiting arrangements in advance. Wat Sam Phran is particularly interesting for the way a contemporary structure brings together Buddhist imagery and an unusual architectural form within an active temple.
